TO use one of Dad's expressions we had a glorious day today! I not sure I believed I would ever make it to Paris and I'm sure I didn't think I would like it so much. It is a beautiful city with great parks everywhere you go. Everyone has been friendly. And the city has a great energy. It seems like a Las Vegas of culture too. The museums have been great and every where you look there is an gallery focused on a narrow (and sometimes odd) niche of art. The city permeates a strong sense of style which permeates every aspect of Paris, public and private.
I got up before everyone this AM and went for a run. This was the first time I had done this. Often in italy the roads were so narrow, and there are very few parks, so I was afraid to run. I ran past Notre Dame and out of the Cite and back around to our apartment. There are lots of runners here! Outside of Milan, we counted 3 runners the entire time I was in Italy. I don't know how they stay in such good shape there.
Dining in Cafes, Brasseries, etc is incredible expensive. I think it would cost us $50 for breakfast and maybe $200 for dinner. So we are making lemonade by eating out in the parks etc. We had breakfast this AM in the Jardin du Luxembourg which is a beautifully manicured park. We strolled around it afterwards and really enjoyed it. It seemed like a great way to start the day.
Later we headed fo rhte Pantheon where some famous people are buried. They wanted $12 each for Maggie and I to get in so we took a pass. There were a lot of people queueing up to get in there so I am not sure what we were missing but the guidebook didn't make it seem worth the time/money.
