Yesterday we. went to Volterra, a fairly small town in the mountains. We had planned at first to go to Siena but because it was market day it was far to crowded to find parking and we had to go somwhere else instead. Thus after several hours of driving, this agitated family wound up in Volterra. Both Nora and I had heard of this town before due to the dramatic young adult series Twilight. The town makes an appearance when a vampire believes the main character to be dead and in an act of suicide goes to volterra hoping that another "clan" of vampires will do the job for him. Needless to say, we were all tremendously excited to go there. Although we don't think we ran into any vampires, we still spent a nice couple of hours strolling thoughout the city. Personally, however, I did not feel that volterra possessed any qualities unique from the other cities we have visited.
Today we are in the town of Siena, where we had intended to go yesterday. The first thing we did was go see the preserved head and thumb of Saint Catherine. Although we have only gotten here just recently, Sienna seems to be a very cute city. One of the factors that makes it special from most cities is that there are no cars here. There is a great feeling of community and I am greatly looking forward to spending the day here.
