We were walking out of the metro en route to one of the parks (looking for a soccer game) when Fiona gave me a warning in a hushed tone, "dad, don't use that exit. There's some one out there. I could see a foot of someone on the ground, and I thought it was a homeless person. So I said "don't worry" and forged ahead. When I rounded the corner, I saw a woman lying on the ground and a man running away with a purse. I immediately realized what was going on and quickly checked with the woman and then ran after the man. He hopped on a bicycle that a friend was holding for him and rode away at a hi speed. Realizing that I couldn't catch him I started to yell, "stop him! Stop him!" while I was running. But no one did anything... The two men were riding very fast, so I don't know what anyone could have done. I went back to check on the woman who seemed remarkably able to move on from the incident. She spoke English and said she was staying at a hotel nearby. She thanked me and went on her way. Fiona and I were a little shaken, but we headed out. I told fiona to tell Bridget and Nora the lesson we learned. When exiting a metro station, make sure you are doing it with other people. If you are exiting alone, you are a potential target for a mugger. Always be aware of your surroundings.
From Fiona's perspective:
So we were walking through the metro station, and I was in front of my dad. All of the sudden, I saw two figures that looked like they were fighting. One had the other in a head lock, so I assumed they were having a disagreement. I saw one go down so I thought it would be dangerous to walk into and told my dad. He didn't save the same view of things as I did, so he thought that the visible feet of the figure who had gone down were just the feet of the homeless person. I stopped walking because I didn't want to get hurt, but my dad kept walking because he hadn't seen what I had seen. All of the sudden, I hear him say "What do you think you're doing! Hey, get back here!" He used the authoritative voice he uses with Bridget and Nora sometimes. He quickly checked with the woman and ran after the man who stole her purse. He didn't catch the guy but the lady was okay, and dad fulfilled his dream of chasing a robber

How come this is the first time I am learning of this? I sensed you were in danger.
