Nora's Nantucket Post

Nora's amazing blog entry
Nantucket 2013

One of the most unique things about this family reunion, besides it being on an island, was our living situation. Usually, each family rents their own house that is fairly close to the others or rents a house with another family. This year, our entire branch of the family rented two houses next to each other: one named surf and the other, turf. We had nineteen people all living together, eating together, biking together, and playing cards together. Though the sleeping arrangements were split between the two houses, everyone seemed to gather at one house. All of the cousins enjoyed playing card games such as spit, spot it, bs (booty slap), solitaire, Egyptian rat screw, and especially war. When we weren't playing cards, we were usually helping prepare dinner. Aunt Ellen made a hopper, dividing all of the responsibilities amongst the cousins. One night we had a Mexican fiesta, and another night we made burgers and Mac n cheese. We rode our bikes to the grocery store to get the food and made dinner while others set the tables and cleaned up. Making food for 19 people was not easy but we somehow managed. The communal living experience truly marked this family reunion. It was hard not to be frustrated when you couldn't find a quiet place to relax, but all of the cousins bonded and it was well worth it.
