Fiona's blog Sunday july 3

We woke up at seven o'clock in the morning, sluggishly forcing myself to get out of bed. I was absolutely exhausted, what with all the last minute arrangements of the previous night. I quickly got dressed and went downstairs for a breakfast of Cocoa Puffs and Austrian pastries. I also snuck four candies from the bowl at the front desk, but no one knows about that...
We took a very scenic route to the two castles. There are a lot of hills, and the Alps tower in the distance. I can see why Germans settled in Wisconsin... We passed through Munich and lots of other small towns. By the time we got to the castles I needed to go to  bathroom terribly. The deal we found got is into two famous Bavarian castles. The first room of the Hohenschwengau castle was the pool room, with a pool table and gifts to the Bavarian royal family. We then saw the dining room, the queens quarters, and the kings quarters. They were all lavishly decorated, lots of gold, and many different types of wood. We took a hike up through the woods which included lots of quick pics. There was a ton of horse poop on the road which was unenjoyable. The second castle Neuschwanstein. There was a lot of stuff here and it was all colorfully designed and had a very ornate baroque feel. It was supposedly the inspiration for the Disney castle. We hiked up to a bridge above a Ford afterward. My dad was so afraid to look down as he has a fear of heights, but the views were spectacular. Afterwards we took a beautiful, scenic and loud waterfall hike down. I immensely enjoyed it as we were walking at some points over the waterfall on flimsy little metal walkways. We also saw an ancient plumbing system on the way. The water was freezing. Looks like dad got in one last hike before he turns 50!
We got gelato on our way back to the car, and they are so much more generous here!
As of now, we are heading back to Munich. My dad has just revealed that he wants to go nude for his birthday.  JK... he just wants to go to a garden with nude beaches. I am in for a rude awakening...
